In what ways can the social model of disability have a positive effect on the provision of care?

The social model is relevant to the issues experienced by disabled people. It highlights their experiences of discrimination in such areas as independent living. The social model aims to remove barriers that society has created. The model also advocates that society assists disability because it does not cater for the needs of the persons, stairs instead of a wheelchair ramp can create difficulty for wheelchair user. Disabled people feel this is unfair to be labelled because they suffer a disability, the model shows that the society tends to label some groups in order to conform as a result the focus is on society and not the individual with the disability or impairment. The social model works towards inclusion for a disabled person, the social model was developed because of the medical model.
