1 (B) Describe the methods and techniques that biological psychologists use to study the brain. Explain how these can help us understand the relationship between brain and behaviour.

The brain is responsible for all functions in the human body and biological psychologists have used different methods, techniques and experiments to study it. This essay will describe some of the methods such as brain surgery, brain damage, experimental lesions and also a non-invasive technique called Positron Emission Tomography (PET). It will be explained how these methods, along with examples to support them, are used to understand the relationship between the brain and behaviour (Toates, 2007).

One of the methods used to study the brain is with surgery. By observing the patient prior to surgery and after it, it allows doctors and scientists to ascertain which parts of the brain are responsible for each function and as a result how that affects an individuals behaviour.
