Simply put, causation is the casual relationship between conduct and result. Causation has described as one of the most basic elements required for criminal liability . It does not seem right to convict a person who did not cause the result of the supposed event. The reasoning for this stems from respect for the principle of individual autonomy – that each and every person is individually free in their actions, and that they are independent, so long as it does contravene any law, to act as they wish. However, such an idea is inextricably linked with individual responsibility. Every person is accountable for their actions thus the criminal laws manner is to place casual responsibility on the last individual to interfere with the situation.
