The sophistication and use of information technology has increased and therefore created a new template for activism to take place in first world countries (Cyberactivism, 2003). Despite the rise of this kind of cyber activism it is definitive that activism online through the use of social media is ineffective in first world countries. It is ineffective because 1st world countries are too desensitized to suffering causing apathy rather than empathy, it has become a trend to be an activist rather than to create change and there are too many distractions in first world society to settle on one activist movement therefore making online activism in first world countries highly ineffective.
