2014 Summer Reading List – 8″’ Grade
Students are to read the books listed below over the summer break. Students are expected
to annotate each book and write a book report for both the required books.
Parents:

annotate as well as add to their personal repertoire of novels.
0 We have given The Booksellers at Laurelwood our reading list in order to have
copies available for purchase.

Required Reading:

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by ]ohn Boyne

Guaranteed to spark discussion and debate-this is a tale of two young boys experiencing the
Holocaust from different perspectives and getting caught up in terrible events entirely beyond
their control.

Gifted Hands by Ben Carson

Nothing but the Truth, A Documentary Novel by Avi

A ninth-grader’s suspension for singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” during homeroom becomes a
