For the first part of the assignment, summarize your data by summarizing the patterns you see in it. Does something interesting recur in the data? Can different patterns you see be grouped together (e.g. x type of wording and y type of wording work together to give an impression of z). Are there opposing or contradictory patterns in the data? Include description of the following elements: 1) Data set–the genre(s) and numbers and titles of texts, written or oral 2) Data item(s)–the thematic clusters you identify that MUST reflect the main abstractions of your research (for example, what specific markers of key terms like globalization or multiculturalism will you be using?) 3) Data extract(s)–specific findings within the data items, specific examples Then, interpret/analyze these patterns in the context of your research questions. How do they help you to understand what you sought to understand through your research? Did you find something different, unexpected? What’s really significant about your findings? What can you argue or conclude based on the patterns you see? How does your research contribute to what we already know about the topic you’re investigating? What avenues might other researchers’ take to build on your findings?
