In the opening chapter of his book, Roger Daniels argues that Christopher Columbus was “a man who, when he started, didn’t know where he was going, when he arrived[,]

didn’t know where he was, and when he returned, didn’t know where he had been.” However, Columbus “planted the first permanent European colony in the New World” (page

15). Do a thorough search about the circumstances of his first trans-Atlantic voyage (August 3 – October 12, 1492).  Study at least two of the recommended sources (as
