Situation:
Congratulations!
After only graduating from the MTM last week you have been appointed as a project officer reporting directly to the manager of an important transport infrastructure project. This project will look impressive on your CV. There continues to be significant public and political interest in this transport infrastructure project. It has a large budget and a tight timeframe. The company you work for won the government contract to deliver the project, the contract is managed by the Department on behalf of the Minister.

"Oh no (Annotated Bibliography)":
Construction work has commenced and within the first few days workers have exposed evidence of an ancient burial site that is likely to have cultural significance to the local community. An archaeological investigation is likely to indefinitely delay the project and result in major cost blow- outs. The company’s share price could suffer. The Minister is on the public record that “come hell or high water this project is going to be delivered on time and on budget”. Keeping quiet about the find is likely to cause major public controversy, if the public were to find out. Your manager has indicated he is reluctant to stop work and has asked you for advice about what you would do and why.

Essay Task

Given that your advice could sway the Manager’s ultimate decision, analyse the ethical dilemma in relation to the seven moral standards (see Appendix 1) and explain what you would do and justify why it is the appropriate ethical action to take under the circumstances.
