Outline and assess the role the media should play in our society.

In this essay I will be outlining the role that the BBC, as a media provider, has in UK society. I will be using the academic work of James Curran, Hoynes and Croteau, with essays compiled by Keeble and Mair. I will be comparing this work with public documents such as the official BBC royal charter; end of fiscal year reports for BSkyB and BBC worldwide and BBC news articles. This will allow me to apply real life context to the theories and models provided in the academic papers and assess the current state of the UK media. I will be arguing that the BBC has the ethics of what medias place in society should be but has actions that state otherwise due to pressures from private companies.
