Analyse the Queer subculture with reference to Hebdige, Thornton and others working in the field of subcultural theory.

To avoid misconceptions, it is important to distinguish homosexuality from the queer subculture. Halperin recounts similar feelings from a man named John, in his book- How to be Gay. John states that while talking about homosexuality is admirable and a step in the right direction in terms of tolerance; being gay is a sexual orientation and not a sub culture. Reiterating that, the longer discussion skews toward cliches and stereotyping, the longer the image of homosexuality is skewed to the people who learn about it. (Halperin, 2012, pg 57-58) What this essay is aiming to discuss is the subculture within; not that of an entire orientation.
