Plasma proteins are the most abundant components present in plasma and they are mainly synthesised by liver cells. The amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and proteins are building blocks of tissues and all cells within the body, they are also basic components of antibodies, agents of clotting, enzymes and most hormones (Marshall and Bangert, 2004).

The plasma proteins have a wider range of different functions and these include maintenance of osmotic pressure, transport, defence reactions, blood clotting and storage of energy for muscle and tissues. The major measurement of serum proteins are divided into albumin and globulins. Globulins are categorised into four categories by protein electrophoresis and these are alpha 1, alpha 2,  beta and Gamma globulins.
