In this assignment I will be discussing my role as a teaching assistant in a Primary school of around 400 pupils, aged 5 to 11, in a large suburban town. I have been in my current role almost two years, which requires me to support the school in the four main areas, pupils, teachers, school and curriculum, in line with DfEE framework (2000a, para. 2.5).

I currently support Year 2 five mornings a week, in Phonics, Literacy, Numeracy and guided reading. I am given groups of children to support who are working at a lower level and mainly work with them outside of the classroom, much like Keith Eddyshaw the teaching assistant in “Ten titles and roles” (Hancock & Colby Pg10). This gives me the opportunity to encourage each individual child in their learning and to assess what needs to be addressed to improve their progress.
