To what extent is it useful to see sexuality as an historical invention?

Sexuality enters into every aspect of our life whether we know it or not. There are two main views on the subject, one which links sexuality down to biology, its main founder being Freud, and the other more vastly accepted view, which sees sexuality as formed throughout history, originated from theorists such as Foucault (1981) and Weeks (1985). I shall be looking at the development of this view and relating this to its usefulness in specific areas. There are countless numbers of areas to which I could enter, such as domestic violence and homosexuality, for sexuality is part of a much wider theme in society….(short extract)
