Assignment Introduction and Context:

This week’s discussion assignment is to articulate and discuss the core values of your organization. If you do not currently work in an organization with a values statement/list, then articulate what you feel the values are or should be.

Tasks:

In 200–300 words, post to the Discussion Area your response to one of the following:

Identify your organization’s core values (six or less) (or if not established create values that you would align with). What are the “how we do what we do’s” of your organization. If they are not already stated, try to come up with values based on what you have seen and experienced in your ministry. If you would like to engage your organizations values and change, shorten or otherwise adapt them, be bold and give this a try.
Does your organization have stated values? If not, why do you suppose that is so? For those who have values in place, how were these values determined? Who participated in writing them? If the values were established long ago and you do not know their source, then take time to discuss the current power of the values. How do they impact the organization? Do the values need to be updated, amended and/or rearticulated? (If you created the values list what criteria was used? Who did you consult when creating them?)
How are your organization’s values articulated? How could this be improved upon?
Share one anecdote regarding how one of the values guided your group at a critical moment.
