If we study Table 1, we can gather that there is a fall in numbers of children in both one family household and other households, whilst in one person households there has been a steady rise in percentages. At a closer look we can see the stark difference in the decreasing numbers within dependent children, falling from 52% in 1971 to 36% in 2008, yet despite the fall in the overall number of children, the table clearly shows a slow but consistent rise in the population number. However we do have to consider the fact that although the first four dates the data was gathered from was evenly spaced, thus allowing for a consistent platform for information to be formed, the last date is 2008 which only gives a 7 year gap between the last collection and can hinder the correct trend of the variables.
