Firstly the Romans portrayal of Cleopatra could come across as biased due to the fact that during the battle of Actium Cleopatra was defeated. This left Octavians prevail of her to write history. Cleopatra was described as someone who captivated the two greatest Romans of her time (Cassius Duo, c.164, in Fear, 2008, p.7) Throughout the Romans insight we see Cleopatra as a lover, ally and bitter enemy to Julius Caesar, Mark Antony and Octavian. The power of Cleopatra is made apparent and Romans suggest that she was manipulative towards men and wanted authority and control. As well as this grand status we also see a display of exotic wealth and luxury.
