Media Viewing

For this assignment, you need to see a mediated view of a culture. You may choose to watch something you can use for your final project(ROLE PLAYING GAME),or you may choose to view something unrelated to your project – your choice.

For this assignment, your job is to use course content (from M&N) that specifically relates to attitudes, beliefs, and values that are relieved/portrayed/shown (or NOT) in some mediated view of that culture. This means you’ll need to explore M&N’s ideas about these ideas and look for illustrations of them in the portrayals that you view.

This media event can be something you see in the movie theater, a live theater, a concert, a museum showing, a television show on regular tv, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. It could be Youtube-related videos, a web series. I’m open to various presentations. If you aren’t sure, just ask.

Please remember that a fictional portrayal can reveal but it has its limitations. Recognize that. I guess documentaries do as well. Remember, the SHOW needn’t be about your culture, the show could simply have a look at your culture. So CSI: New York (remember, APA italicizes titles!) isn’t about Hasidic Jew culture, but they might have had a show that looked into it.

The paper needs to access M&N’s ideas about attitudes, beliefs, and values, and then explore that in a 2 to 3 page paper. Normal ideas – it’s got a cover page, 2 to 3 pages of text, and a References page that will include M&N and the item you viewed (APA has specific ways to present films/videos/tv shows, etc
