Differentiation Strategy. Select a company that has successfully implemented a differentiation strategy in a specific industry. ( any company other than Harley Davidson or In-N-Out Burger)

Describe how specifically the company has differentiated themselves from their competitors. [As an example Liberty Bank differentiated themselves by offering expanded banking hours (seven days per week and from 7am to 7pm on most days) as well as a number of banking conveniences such as instant debit cards, organized trips for senior citizens, etc.] No other bank in this regional market offers the level of customer service that Liberty Bank did.

Explain what the results of the differentiation strategy have been for the company? In Liberty Bank’s case they held the largest market share in the markets they served, and were purchased by a large banking institution (Centennial Bank) for over $260 million.

Another example of differentiation in the local market is Upper Crust Pizza. They have differentiated themselves from other pizzas restaurants by offering a higher quality product, a ‘sports bar’ atmosphere, live music entertainment, big screen TV’s for sporting event watching, and a full liquor bar. As a result they are one of the most popular pizza places in town and are able to change a premium for their pizza and have a higher profitability than many others.
