One of the primary premises of this course, an idea that goes back at least as far as the ancient Greeks, is that literature can be a source of ethical instruction, that we can advance our moral education by analyzing literary characters, their ethical problems, choices, and the consequences of those choices. Such literary study may contribute to our ethical vocabulary and sensibility and subsequently better prepare us for our own real, lived ethical choices. Assuming the truth of this premise, discuss in detail which of the course texts has contributed most to your ethical vocabulary and sensibility and which of the course texts has contributed the least.
