Description of the Assignment
Ethics has a significant role in the decision-making actions of a nursing leader. Within this assignment, the impact of ethical leadership will be considered. Using an ethical situation created by the student, an ethical decision making model will be applied and evaluated.
Criteria for Content
1. Introduction
This section requires the following content.
• A concise description of ethics with scholarly nursing reference
• A concise description of nursing leadership with scholarly nursing reference
• A concise description of the created ethical situation
• Identification of the sections included in this assignment
2. Role of ethics within nursing leadership
This section requires the following content.
• A comprehensive description of the role of ethics within nursing leadership including:
o What is the outcome(s) when nurse leaders make decisions using ethical principles?
o How can ethical leadership energize a work-related (or organizational) team?
o What is the relationship between quality and ethics?
o What is the impact of nurse leaders who role model ethical behavior upon peers and organizations?
o What is the impact of ethical behavior by nurse leaders upon collaborative teamwork with other healthcare professionals?
• Scholarly nursing references are required to explain and support provided information.
3. Create an ethical leadership situation
This section requires the following content.
• The ethical situation occurs within a fictitious healthcare organization
• The ethical situation clearly involves a nurse leader
• The ethical dilemma reflects ONE of the following ethical principles:
o Autonomy
o Nonmaleficence
o Beneficence
o Justice
o Fidelity
• A comprehensive description of the created ethical dilemma that clearly provides a description of the:
o Ethical conflicts present within the dilemma
o Stakeholders and the impact of the ethical conflict upon them
• Scholarly nursing references are required to explain and support provided information.
4. Application of ethical model
This section requires the following content.
• Each of the following elements of an ethical decision making model is presented in detail:
o Identify the ethical problem
o Apply ANA Code of Ethics to the problem
o Generate 1 (one) course of action
o Provide 2 (two) positive and 1 (one) negative consequence of the selected course of
o action
o Provide a way to evaluate the effectiveness of the selected course of action
• Scholarly nursing references are required to explain and support provided information.
5. Conclusion
• This section requires the following content:
o Provides a summary or review of the key elements of the assignment
o Provides self-reflection on the new knowledge gained about ethical nursing leadership

PREPARING THE ASSIGNMENT
Criteria for Format and Special Instructions
1. The paper (excluding the title page and reference page) should be at least 4, but no more than 6 pages. Points will be lost for not meeting these length requirements.
2. A minimum of 6 (six) scholarly nursing references must be used. A dictionary, required textbooks for this course, and Chamberlain College of Nursing lesson information may NOT be used as scholarly references for this assignment. References are current – within a 5-year time frame unless a valid rationale is provided and the instructor has approved them.
3. Title page, running head, body of paper, and reference page must follow APA guidelines as found in the 6th edition of the manual. This includes the use of headings for each section of the paper except for the introduction where no heading is used.
4. Ideas and information that come from scholarly sources must be cited and referenced correctly.
5. Rules of grammar, spelling, word usage, and punctuation are followed and consistent with formal, scientific writing.
