The account appears in the Hadith, the record of Muhammed’s life and actions.

First, read about the life of Muhammed in the chapter on Islam in Fisher, pages 325-330 in the WMU custom edition.

* Notice what this biography says about Muhammed’s experiences of revelations from God.

Then, read the account of the Night Journey, pages 277-279 of Islam.pdf, or in your WMU custom edition, pages 469-471.

Write a 1-2 page paper about this incident in Muhammed’s life. Build your essay around the details of this revelation:

Who were the main characters in his revelation? Who did he meet?

What did he discover? Where did he go? What was he taught?

At the end of the account how was Muhammed’s heart purified?

In the last paragraph of your essay reflect on how this story expresses a truth about religious experience.
