Choose one option from below as your essay topic. With either of
these options, you are required to engage both readings of Cohen and
course pack, as well as the content in one or a few lectures in Theme II.
1, write an essay to compare the paths of Qing China, Japan and
Korea in the second half of the 19th century. (You can focus on any two
countries out of the three or compare all the three countries.)
2, write an essay to explain the roles played by people in China, Japan
and Korea in the historical transition of East Asia in late 19th century
(Your discussion can focus on any two countries of the three or include all
the three countries.)
