For my performance I decided on Juliets monologue, from Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet, in A.III.S.II, Shall I speak ill of him [. . .] And death, not Romeo, take my maidenhead!
To demonstrate how I will perform my chosen monologue, I will be discussing Juliets journey through the play and how I have interpreted her characters ethos and telos from this. Furthermore, I will be looking at what contemporary conventions may have influenced Shakespeare to write her this way. Also, I will briefly be looking at how others actors portray her in their versions of the play.
When analysing the speech I took certain key elements around the monologue into consideration. When Juliet is first introduced, she’s insisting that marriage is an honour that I dream not of , meaning shes not contemplating it yet.
