User Interaction Design (Individual Grade)
For this assignment you will be designing a new user interface or improving the user interface of
an existing computer game of your choice. This is the means by which the player interacts with the
game concepts and accesses the game mechanics in order to play the game. Consider the user
interaction of your selected computer game and then challenge yourself in designing a new type or
an improvement of user interaction for this game. In developing the interface you are asked not
only to consider how the player will interact and access the game, but also how your interface will
enhance the player’s enjoyment of the game. Also, consider how your new user interface should be
designed in order to keep with the original game concept.
Write-up a brief description of your designed user interface and then collect a series of images
from the web of sample user interfaces that fit the design you have envisioned. Provide a quick
sketch of the new user interface that you propose for the existing game. The following sections
should be included in your write-up:
Selected Computer Game
• State the title, genre, and briefly describe the existing user interface of the
game you have selected.
Re-imagined User Interface Description
• Briefly describe the user interface that you have designed for the existing
game. Develop player interaction methods that enhance the gameplay
experience. What is the overall look and feel of your designed interface? What
are some of the specific details of your interface? Is the user interaction
completely different than the original one?
Evaluation
• Briefly evaluate how suitable your new user interface would be for the
original computer game you have selected. Do you need to add more controls
or take some away?
Submit your written user interaction design, collected web images that assist you in the modeling
of your user interface, and also your attempt at sketching your user interface (don’t worry about
artistic quality, as this is just an exercise).
