The Palace was originally a medieval castle built in the 12th Century until came the French King Francis-I who during (1515-1547). Then King Francis-I commissioned the Italian architect Gilles le Breton (1494-1547) to build a palace in the new Renaissance style. The exterior bears the Italian Baroque Style architecture; of surrounding items around the building such as gardens, fountains orcolonnades, sculptures and stairways. Architect Gilles le Breton preserved some of the old medieval French castle while he made Italian art changes such as the oval courtyard on the foundations of the old castle, a monumental Renaissance stairway, the portique de Serlio, to give access the royal apartments on the north side. The interior design bears the distinct features of the florid, ornatestyle with dramatic contrasts of light and shadow and by using curved shapes-elements.
