“In order to prepare your exhibitions, you have been working in teams (study
groups). Drawing on your experiences from this teamwork process, on
academic literature and your personal reflections discuss the challenges,
problems and conflicts that may occur in teams. Are teams more effective
decision makers and problem solvers than individuals?”.
Students are expected to demonstrate an ability to reflect on their own
experiences, to link their ideas with the theory and propose solutions or
interesting arguments on the topic of teamwork. Reference to dysfunctions of
team work, even if they have not been experienced is essential (e.g.
Groupthink). Essays should have a clear structure, including a brief
introduction and a conclusion and should strictly follow the Harvard
Referencing method.
The individual assessment encourages students to think about what they
have experienced working as a research team and consider what issues
arose and how those issues were managed. Cross cultural issues may occur
and could be discussed as well as related issues (e.g. conflict management,
technology, the organization of meetings, leadership etc). All these issues
need to be discussed then in an academic and reflective manner.
Outlines:
• Introduction: our exhibition is about organization change and we did not know each other before and each one of us from a different nationalities, me and one of the team members are from Qatar, one from Egypt, one from Seychelles and one from China.
• Introduction about team work (theatrically)
• Our team building the stage of responsibilities, who is going to do the following tasks: Schedule meetings, minutes of meeting, resources, research, following deadlines and team leader (practical our team)
• The main conflicts are:
1. Cross cultural, my time is consist of four different nationalities and religion and language( very important the I can’t understand the Chaises accent and she has poor language)
2. Conflict during discussion and a lot of argument to demonstrate ideas.
3. Coming late to the meeting and keep silent during the meetings
4. Leadership issues: it was inconvenient to assign a leader to the group.
5. Understanding requirements and submitting requested parts from each one of them at the right time and the requested task.
6. How did we overcome the conflicts or the problems and achieved our goal. ((((this should be based on a module we read or theory to overcome each particular issue)))) important
7. What are the factors made our team succeed.
