This project completes your transition into the role of ?scholar? as an active participant in specialized discourses. At this stage, you are well versed in literary studies; you will now enter into scholarly conversations surrounding a particular topic of interest to you. You will embark on an extended investigation into an author, eta, or literary movement, with your own ideas informed and complicated by the work of other experts in the field. The research process will include the following elements, for which you will receive specific guidelines:
? 2-page proposal and conference: 5%
? Annotated bibliography (of at least 5 scholarly/peer-reviewed sources): 10%
? 8-10-page article: 15%
The end product will be a thoughtful, critical, and persuasive thesis-driven article with supporting evidence from primary and secondary sources. After establishing your area of focus and central argument, you should include a ?literature review? section that outlines others? arguments and interpretations?and positions your own argument as a contribution to or complication of that conversation. You must provide correct documentation of sources (minimum 6 scholarly/peer-reviewed) according to MLA guidelines for in-text citations and reference lists. (NOTE: The reference page does not ?count? towards the length requirement.) You will carefully revise, edit, and proofread your writing to ensure a high-quality, polished presentation that enhances your ethos as a scholar.
