Response journal to the movie waiting for happiness

You are required to keep a Response Journal for the course covering our screened films (or in-class topics) with at least a page of analysis (of course, you can write about more, if you wish!. Note: a full page’s word count = 300 words). The responses can be personal and informal, but will be your critical thoughts about the film. I do not mean “negative” thoughts, or even your positive critical thoughts. It is not enough (it is never enough) to simply say “this was terrible” or “this rocked!” You need to engage with the films and consider their aesthetic, historical, or technical achievements or complications. You should be expressing your thoughts about the films. Stronger journals may still be informal, but they will address and analyze the student’s engagement of a film’s significance across several of those fields. They will address central themes, cultural complications, economic conditions, or aesthetic innovations, and will not simply state that the film is this or is that, but will ask and engage with a question such as “How does this film add to the conversation of the American project? What does this film mean in context then, and what does it mean now?”
The responses are, likewise, not research journals. Don’t do significant research outside of the scope of the class. However: you can and should be using the journals to process the film’s connection and context as it relates to assigned readings, or contemporary events/films.
