outsourcing and off-shore outsourcing
Since the turn of this century, the number of organisations engaging in outsourcing and off-shore outsourcing has increased significantly. Outsourcing refers to the use of outside organisations for manufacturing and service provision, whilst off-shore outsourcing refers to outsourcing to providers in other countries. Many reports indicate the significant competitive advantages of both strategies, including, amongst many, cost reductions and more flexible organisation structures. In contrast to this, there is considerable researching showing significant diseconomies and other disadvantages associated with these strategies.
