LITERARY ANALYSIS: Eva Luna, Written by Isabel Allende
Using no more than three of the chapters/stories as examples write an analysis of one of the recurring themes in the novel Eva Luna
You should focus on one of the themes we have identified in our general discussion of Latin America culture or one of the themes we have discussed in our class work on the novel.
In deciding on a theme, you should try to focus on an idea that is relatively specific. For example, in thinking of the general theme of feminism in the novel, you might decide to write about the power relationship in marriage or the unconventional roles of women.
In addition you should discuss the concept of the framed story. Explain the frame in this series and relate some aspect of the frame to the theme you are presenting in your paper.
Although you might want to do some initial research on the novel, the bulk of the writing for this paper should be your opinion or your analysis of the story. I am most interested in what you have to say about the novel. I am primarily interested in the opinions of “experts” in so far as they support your ideas Of course, any research you include should be documented using MLA documentation.
Please remember that you will be writing an analysis and not a summary of the plot. Your paper should analyze how the theme that you have chosen is represented through the actions, symbols, images, characters, and settings of the stories. Essentially, this means that once you have decided on a thesis, you should be looking at stories that reflect your thesis and then specific examples in the story that help to illustrate or support your point.
