Legislative History

To combine our understanding of Congresspersons and parties, here is a short paper.

Go to the website below (Thomas) and use it to follow a bill as it becomes a law. You can search for a bill by representative (Cobble) or senator (Hagan) or by subject (motor voter laws), it’s up to you.

Then, write a paper ( 3-4 pages) answering the following questions. Who submitted this bill? Did they have any fellow sponsors? What is the bill number? What is is about, what is the goal or purpose? What subcommittee/committee were they assigned to? Have any hearings been held? Was it reported out of committee? Did it go to the floor for a vote? Has it gone to the other chamber? Has it been subject to hearings there? Any report? Floor vote? Has it become a law? Did President Obama sign it?
It must be a bill from the current (2012-2014) session.

If not, what are the chances do you think of its becoming a law? What role do political parties play in this process, does it affect the outcome do you think? The website is http://beta.congress.gov/
