International Political Economy
Project description
Marxism, Capitalism and Crises
How do the Marxist understandings of capitalist crises–in the Harvey video and the Wolff chapter–differ from the standard explanations of the recent economic crisis found in the mainstream press? What are the strongest points of their arguments? How would a liberal, a mercantilist, or a feminist (choose one) respond to the Marxist analyses of crises?
Learning Module 3b: Gender and Feminism
What is gender? Is gender a useful lens with which to study international relations? Give an example of how gender may play a role in international political economy but has nothing to do with the sex of men or women per se.
Learning Module 3c: Gender Bias of Economics
According to Waring, how does modern economics ignore or exclude gender? Give some specific examples. How might our understanding of “the economy” be different if we adopted her feminist approach?
