Paper instructions:
To complete this task, consider the five phases of the rational model as outlined by Denhardt, Denhardt, and Aristigueta (2013, p.132):

Pre-analysis: The situation is defined.

Analytic: Situations that affect goals are perceived, and information about them is gathered.

Design: Options are crystallized to deal with the situation.

Choice: Alternatives are evaluated, and the optimal choice is selected.

Implementation: The alternative that is chosen to meet the specific situation is implemented.

To this list of five, add the following stage to show you are thinking critically about the case study for this Assignment:

Evaluation: System of ongoing observation that answers the question “How did we do?”

For this Assignment, you will apply the principles of the rational model to a case study. You are encouraged to use the case study you selected for your Discussion question this week. However, you are free to use one of the studies provided by one of your peers if you like it better, or you can find another one online.

Using the five elements of the rational model and the added sixth element, write an expository essay* of no less than 3 full pages and no more than 5 full pages examining the case study of your choice and following the outline below:

Define the problem.

Identify and discuss at least four alternatives. Make sure to also include an ethical evaluation of your alternatives.

Choose one alternative to implement, and provide justification for your choice.

Develop a means of evaluation. How will you define and measure results?

Your paper should be written according to APA format. Make sure to use headings to divide each of the four sections of your paper. Use at least 3–4 scholarly sources (not counting your textbook) from the internet or the Kaplan Library in your paper. Limit the use of direct quotes to no more than 2 quotes less than 40 words. Strive to paraphrase rather than quote directly. Be sure to go to the Kaplan University Writing Center and consult the APA resources there to ensure you are following the guidelines correctly.

Your paper should include the following:

Title page

3-5 double-spaced pages using 12-pt. Arial or New Times Roman

Reference page

Refer to the rubric for more information on the grading standards.

*An expository essay explains something using facts rather than opinions. The purpose of this type of essay is to inform an audience about a subject. It is not intended to persuade or present an argument of any kind.

Submitting Your Assignment

Save your Assignment in a location and with a name that you will remember. When you are ready to submit it, go to the Dropbox and complete the steps below:

Click the link that says “Submit an Assignment.”

In the “Submit to Basket” menu, select Unit 4: Assignment.

In the optional “Comments” field, make sure to include at least the title of your paper.

Click the “Add Attachments” button.

Follow the steps listed to attach your Word document.

To view your graded work, come back to the Dropbox or go to the Gradebook after your instructor has evaluated it.
