Exploring how to choose the appropriate supply chain that match product demand for the firm

My aim with this research proposal, is compare and contrast the supply chain management approaches of two organizations, one that follow lean approach (predictable demand) ,this approach is normally used for functional products and is focus on eliminating waste, provide customers stock availability at the right time and with the right stock quantity, while the other one follow agile approach, this approach is focus on a quick demand response (unpredictable demand), focus on mass customization, postponed production as much as they can in the supply chain downstream, because demand for innovative products are uncertain, and lead time are short, therefore, supply chain need to be able to a quick response.

Supply chain management has generated a significant amount of interest among all organizations and researchers. The interest in this field increased due to the growth in the development and application of e-business technologies and the way that consumer behave doing shopping. Supply chain management is directly affected by network and dynamic business environment and by information and communication improvement, moreover if organisation fails in this crucial field can have affected the final price of their products and, therefore, a decrease in their profits.

There is an increasing number of the organisation realized the importance of developing long-term coordination and cooperation can significantly improve the efficiency of supply chain and, therefore, provide a way to ensure competitive advantage in the market.

In this research proposal, the aim is to show the importance for organisations distinguish their products, as functional or innovative products, because this lead a organisation choose which supply chain approach they will be adopt, in addition it can help managers the importance of understand the nature of the demand for their products and, therefore, choose the supply chain that match the demand for their products.

The research proposal should contain a background section. The background section has three main functions.

1) It explains WHAT you are going to do;

2) WHY the topic is relevant; and

3) it shows HOW your proposed work fits in with what is already know. The review leads up to a clear statement of your research question and objectives.

Your methods section is the largest and main section of your research proposal. Here, you explain what you are going to do to address your research question. You should write about your approach to theory, theory testing or expanding, the type of research strategy that you plan to employ to answer your research question, the data that you intend to collect together with a proposed data analysis strategy. If you propose to collect information from human participants you need to include a section on research ethics. Make sure that you provide a rationale for your methods choices and that you reflect on threats to the reliability and validity of the proposed projects findings.

The last section of your research proposal provides a proposed timeline of actions and a discussion of the resources required for your project (time, costs, data access, software requirements such as SPSS).

The research proposal does not involve any data collection, secondary or primary, and data analysis. Both data collection and analysis are part of your research project in management.

For the moment I do not know which theory I will use, therefore, I will leave in the hand of the person who will writing for his/her experience in this field of supply chain management, to choose the best theory, data collection ,,etc.. will be better for my research
