Explore the development of environmental politics in Australia from the 1970s onwards.

Course Name: Society and Environmental Change

An excerpt from the course outline that should be noted when writing the essay:

“In particular, the course will address such questions as: what are the key factors for successful societal change; what are the barriers? How does Australia’s political landscape influence the public’s capacity to exert environmental change? What can we learn from earlier transformations in society, for example the civil rights movement in the United States, or the introduction of technological innovations?”
The question is broad but I want fairly in depth analysis in the essay so please quickly narrow the scope. Perhaps you could quickly establish a definition for “environmental politics” from some prominent sources early on. You could then explore the effectiveness or lack thereof of “environmental politics” at driving environmental change in Australia through a few case studies.
