Research question

Has the educational expansion, that is, the opening of educational institutions, after the Second World War, helped to decrease the association between socio-economic background and educational achievement in the U.S.?

Use the following structure as a guide:

Introduction (about 1 page)

Contextualize the research question within social stratification and inequality

Explicate the relevance of the research question

Describe the research question

State a hypothesis about the expectation of the association between socio-economic background and educational achievement

Analysis/literature review (about 4 to 5 pages)

Present and critically discuss theoretical and empirical literature and their key arguments or findings

Depending on your focus, you may want to include:
A brief description of educational expansion in the U.S., in particular of post-secondary institutions

Explanation of equality of opportunity and/or primary/secondary effects

Present and explain theoretical key concepts before you turn to empirical studies
