To enhance critical thinking ability and an understanding of social behavior from different perspectives and disciplines.
To provide the student with materials and tools for forging relationships between the Core concepts and individual self-concept.
To provide the student with experience in articulating and defending ideas and concepts during class discussions and presentations based on reading assignments.
To provide the student with practice in organizing and expressing ideas in writing.
Assignment: This semester has been a reflective exercise, prompting you to look within, comparing what you are reading, hearing and seeing with your own developing identity and values. Address the three core questions by describing YOU in regard to the following four areas:
Who am I? Values (So what?)
What is important to you? Before? Now? Why? Has your experience this semester modified or confirmed your values?
What do I know? Knowledge (So what?)
What have you learned – about yourself, about others, about the world?
Based on what I know, how should I act? Actions (Now what?)
What do you do to live those values? Show your knowledge?
