Cultural Plunge Presentation
The Cultural Plunge Learning Activity in Week One offered an opportunity for you to interact with a group of people whose characteristics differ from your own. For your final assignment, you are to develop a 10-15 page PowerPoint presentation to:
Explain why you chose this experience.
Describe the experience itself.
Demonstrate what you learned about the individuals/group you interacted with.
Reflect upon what you learned about yourself.
Were you anxious during this interaction? If so, what triggered your anxiety or discomfort?
Discuss diversity consciousness and how to cope with discomfort.
Apply your personal diversity philosophy.
What would want to learn more about?
In addition to these reflections, you should include (a) research about the group you experienced and (b) interview results from a minimum of two individuals who are members of the group.
For your interviews, you may also wish to consider the following items:
• How these individuals view themselves in relation to their peers.
• How the individuals identify with various groups/populations/cultures.
• Your impression of the interviews.
• How the conversations impacted you.
• Determine whether or not the interviewees hold the same values, traditions, and experiences as you.
• How the interviews impacted the way you view and value differences.
