Having chosen an institution, for example a school, conduct a review of relevant literature. This could include the prospectus, OFSTED report, and school website. In the report, the school must remain anonymous. If you are going to use human participants as part of your research, you must complete the form and apply for ethical clearance with the department. You can discuss this with your lecturer.

Within the report, you could include the following information:
• Put the school into context by describing the area, age of school, learner intake, number of staff, etc.
• Justify why you used particular sources of information.
• What is significant about the school, this could be positive and/or negative.
• Are there issues raised by the OFSTED report, and if so what is the school doing to address them.

As with the essay, by engaging with reading on your chosen area, you will be able to blend quotes and references into your work. This will enable you to write an informed, sound discussion, refute or support your arguments, and achieve analysis and synthesis within the report.
