Format of Written Reports

The report is to be submitted electronically using Microsoft Word, MLA format, embedded citations, and include a bibliography of works cited in your report. It should be double-spaced with the first line of each paragraph indented five spaces. Any quote longer than three lines should be single-spaced and indented five additional spaces from both the standard left and right margins. Standard margins are one inch from the left and right sides, one and one-half inches from the top, and one inch from the bottom. Font size should be 12. Page numbers should be at the top left and formatted as “Your Last Name – Page Number.” Include a cover page with your name, subject, quarter, and title of your paper.

Include a copy of the financial statements used in your analysis as an appendix to your report. The content of the report should include the following in the order listed:

Five sections:
1. Executive Summary – Summary of report’s objectives and findings. This should be brief; similar to an abstract.
2. Analysis overview – Describe your approach to analyzing the company, e.g., questions asked, evidence gathered, tools applied. If you made any adjustments to the underlying data to compensate for accounting policies adopted by the company, describe those adjustments and why you made those adjustments.
3. Evidential matter – This is your financial analysis.
4. Assumptions – Describe the assumptions you made in performing your analysis.
5. Inferences and conclusions – Draw inferences and conclusions from your evidential matter. The evidence you gather must support your inferences and conclusions. In this section, you should discuss limitations on your results due to accounting policies adopted by the company and suggest possible adjustments to the underlying data of your analysis that might have improved your analysis of the company.

Appendix – Copies of the financial statements used in your report.

Excluding the appendix, the paper should be between 10 to 12 pages in length.
