Civil Rights Movement

Week two (3pages)
For your Final Paper due in Week Five. For your topic, you may choose any major historical event or development that occurred in the United States between 1945 and 2000. I have chosen the Civil Rights Movement.

This week, you will submit a paper explaining the topic that you have chosen, which I have chosen (Civil Rights Movement) identify who you will interview, and explain how that person’s experience is related to the course. You must also identify at least three scholarly secondary sources on the topic that will help you understand the historical context and develop your interview questions for next week’s assignment. Prior to working on your assignment, please access the Interviewing Subjects for Oral History Final Paper document and review the Principles and Best Practices developed by the Oral History Association. (I have included both of these).

The paper must be two to three pages in length (excluding title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style.
Week three (4pages)
Submit a list of at least 10 questions that you will ask during the interview for your Final Paper, and provide an annotated bibliography of the sources you identified in the Week Two Assignment. In the annotated bibliography, you must convey the importance of each source through a comprehensive summary that clearly supports the thesis. The questions must be directly related to the chosen topic and the readings in this class. Refer to the Tips for Interviewers site and the Interviewing Subjects for Oral History Final Paper document to help you as you write your interview questions. Lastly, write a one page assessment of what you learned from developing the interview questions.
Week five (7 pages)
Oral History

For your Final Paper, you will conduct an oral history interview either in person, on the phone, or using skype in which you focus on a major historical event or development that occurred in the United States between 1945 and 2000. Then, you will write a brief comparison of that individual’s recollection of that event with at least three academic sources.

In Week Two you chose a topic, identified the person you will interview, and identified at least three scholarly secondary sources. In Week Three you constructed at least 10 questions to ask during the interview and created an annotated bibliography of your chosen articles.

For this Final Paper, you will submit a biography of your interview subject, including the points relevant to the historical event or development that you chose. Use bold headings to divide your paper by questions from your interview. Within each section, discuss your interview subject’s recollection of the event or development and compare that to information from your scholarly sources. Your paper will be more similar to a technical report, divided into topics or issues, rather than a traditional research paper. However, you must still properly cite your sources. Conclude your paper with a paragraph or two in which you summarize the similarities and differences between your interview subject’s recollections and the information you found in the academic sources.

The paper must be 7 pages in length (excluding title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style.
