Project description
This report is a self-reflection report, which will enable you to identify a career action plan, based on the research conducted for the first assignment, CW1.

This assignment tests the following Learning Outcomes for the module:

1. Develop a useful and effective CV
4. Analyse their own strengths and development needs in relation to progressing into employment and be able to construct a development plan

The Assignment Task:
Overview

Following on from CW1, your Career Research report, prepare a self-reflection report to support you in your future career planning.

The overall aims of the assignment are to provide you with the opportunity to:

• demonstrate self awareness and reflection in supporting your Career Development activities
• prepare a CV to support you in preparation for your career/placement
• develop a “Career Action Plan” as a result of considering your current knowledge, skills and experiences against the requirements you have researched in CW1
A) THE TASK – WHAT YOU ARE BEING ASKED TO DO

Following on from the research that you undertook in CW1 – Career Research Report – and making use of the feedback that you received on this report to assist you, you need to:

• Complete a personal analysis of what you have to offer this employer at the moment. This should include your current skills, knowledge and experiences, both academic and from other areas of your life.
• The output of this analysis will form the basis of the preparation of a Curriculum Vitae (CV). You are asked to complete the CV exactly as your situation is now, as if you were applying for the position you identified. This CV can then be tailored or adapted for use in other methods of recruitment, for example on-line application forms.
• Once you have completed the CV you are required to review where you see yourself against the requirements of the role identified. This is set out in the form of a “gap analysis”. For example: Where could you do with adding more evidence? What additional skills & experiences do you need to add? Would you feel confident going through the selection process now?
• Once you have answered the above, you are in a position to develop your Career Action Plan. This should show both the short-term and longer-term actions required to prepare you for an opportunity in the area you have researched. Your actions must be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound)
B) THE REPORT – WHAT YOU ARE BEING ASKED TO SUBMIT

You are required to submit a written report of 1500 words. You may use the headings shown in this briefing or you may use your own headings, what is important is that you clearly cover all areas outlined below in a way that can be marked.
INTRODUCTION – Provide a paragraph outlining what your assignment will cover. You will need to include a brief summary of the sector/role/business opportunity that you identified in CW1 and also give information on the key competencies that you identified as being required. These will form the basis for your self-evaluation. You should make reference to feedback from your first report assignment and how you propose to use this to improve this report. (10 Marks available for this section)
Personal analysis, “gap analysis”, Career Action plan and CV preparation– this is where you look at your current skills, knowledge and experience against those highlighted by your research in CW1. The suggested headings to be used in this section are:

o Personal analysis – a general review of your current skills, knowledge and experience. This will include the feedback and information reviewed within the seminars as well as an identification of how you know you have these skills. (20 marks available for this section)

o Gap Analysis – this section is where you look at your own personal analysis against the requirements identified in CW1. The aim is to highlight areas to focus your personal development around. Reflect on the following areas: what areas do you lack evidence in? Where do you need further examples / evidence in your applications? Where do you feel weak in your overall application? (20 marks available for this section)
o Career Action Plan – Once you have identified the areas you need to focus on, you are asked to prepare a Career Action Plan which addresses both the personal development and specific career related activities you will undertake to take you forward.
o This plan should include the knowledge, skills and experiences you need to further develop e.g. commercial awareness, and specific activities to support you through the selection process e.g. interview skills, making presentations etc.
o You should come up with clear actions to get you to where you want to be. You should show the resources you will use to move the area of development forward and the timescales you will complete these in. This should cover as a minimum the time remaining to your graduation.
o This plan can be presented in the form of a table (20 marks available for this section)

o CV – Preparation of a CV to apply for the graduate level position identified in your research for CW1, based on your current situation. (20 marks available for this section)

Conclusion – A brief reflection on how you feel having completed the overall assignment, and how you intend to use the Career Action Plan. (10 marks available for this section and to include assignment parameters)
