Atomic Cafe
Atomic Cafe Essay 3 rubric
This essay will concern issues related to the film The Atomic Café. The essay will include the following parts:
1) Discussion and analysis of two things about the film: first, how the filmmakers prove that the US government lied to and/or misled the public about the dangers of nuclear war and nuclear testing; second what the filmmakers’ attitude is towards that fact. Do they consider the lying/misleading to be justified, or are they against it? What do they want you to do or think? Use rhetorical analysis and specific examples from the film to show how you know these things.
2) Your position: do you agree with the filmmakers’ thesis from #1 above? Is the film convincing of its main point? Why or why not? Be sure to state in a topic sentence your position and argue it using examples.
3) Two outside sources, incorporated into the text of the essay, that you will use to argue your position in #2 above.
4) The introductory paragraph must not mention the film The Atomic Café either by name or indirect reference (i.e. no “this film I am talking about”). The introduction must deal with directly relevant issues specific to this essay and film.
5) A Works Cited page or section containing proper citations for the sources you use. (Please include a proper citation for the film as a primary source, and for other materials as secondary sources. )
6) A relevant title.
7) Editing and proofreading adequate for a final draft of essay 3 in this course.
Please remember that the title of the film should always be in italics, not quotation marks.
