Project instructions:
Question 1: Answer the following questions as it applies to Chapter 2: problem 18 (pg 63).

(a) Solve the linear programming model we developed as part of assignment 1 using graphical method.

(b) Interpret the slack/surplus variables that you obtain based on the optimal values of decision variables in (a).

(c) Are there any binding constraints in the model? Explain.
Since this assignment involves creating a graph, you can submit it in several ways:

i)You can draw the graph by hand, scan it and upload it.

iii) you can construct the graph using a software like excel. There are no specific functions that will generate the graph automatically in excel. You will have to create one manually using shapes and charts feature if you are familiar with those tools in excel.

The homework problem involves graphical method explained in lectures 2 and 3. Additionally, there are solved examples demonstrating application of graphical method. These as you noted were part of last week’s material.

Slack/surplus variables and binding constraints are explained in the lectures 2 and 3 as well as the FAQ section. Please take a look at the FAQ section.
Question 2: Chapter 3: problem 22 (pg 99) (Solve the problem using excel solver)

A tutorial demonstrating use of excel solver is part of the material for this week. There is also a solver FAQ document available. This document presents instructions for activating solver on machines with Microsoft excel 2003, 2007 and 2010 versions. The same info is also part of the Course FAQ document that is on the home page.
