ARCHETYPE
Please read the following instructions carefully: From three movies THAT WE HAVE NOT SEEN AND DISCUSSED IN CLASS, each made during a different decade, take three female characters who you think demonstrate the evolution of a single particular female ARCHETYPE – that is, a particular category or GENRE of film heroine (perhaps, the girl-next-door, the femme fatale, the homemaker, the career woman). Then do the following:

Describe the evolution of that ARCHETYPE through these three characters and movies. Please do so chronologically, discussing the oldest movie first. How did each character reflect the era she represented? (Please define that era, using specific statistics and cultural and political events. You can go to the text and, even more important, to women’s periodicals of the times, which you may quote, to make your points.)
In what ways did this archetype change through each generation, and WHY?
IMPORTANT!!!! Make sure you have cleared with me your archetype and the films you are using to represent that archetype. Make sure, too, that you study all three films, and that you support your points with particular scenes and exchanges of dialogue from the films themselves. Also, utilize secondary reading sources and cite them. No more than 4 pages. Again, DO NOT DESCRIBE THE PLOT, except in the most perfunctory way – two sentences or less.
