Order Description

Description: The second paper should demonstrate an engagement with concepts from lectures, discussions, and readings from class and relate them to this University. It will be based on an interview that you conduct with someone that you do not know well. Papers should examine a topic that intersects with themes from the latter half of the course: environment, kinship, economics, politics, and religion. Be sure to draw from concepts from two of these units, and remember that depth of analysis is more desirable than breadth of range.

Topics can include kinship (e.g., marriage), economics (e.g., gift exchange), religion (e.g. monsters), politics (e.g., power and agency), and the environment (e.g., subsistence strategies). Papers should explore a theme from class and identify their relevance to your interviewee and be roughly 5 double-spaced pages. It is worth 10% of the overall grade.

Papers should include a bibliography if any sources are cited. Any standardized format is acceptable, provided that it is used consistently throughout the paper.
