Assignment Three: Living Realities
The body narrative explored ways of narrating your story. Then, you wrote a more formal, researched spatial narrative. Now, the focus of this essay is to write,
in-depth, about a social condition that directly relates to you.
The purpose for this paper includes the following:
to discover, analyze, and provide cause and effect circumstances.
to incorporate research.
to expand and show multiple perspectives on an issue or concern.
to make observations, connections, and disconnections in your exploration.
Assignment: A Lived Reality
Consider you and previously discussions in the ‘My Reality’ assignment. From there, identify and investigate a social condition (issue/movement/policy/problem).
It’s important to identify a community because this essay is not about you per se, but the condition and aspects about that condition.
First, develop a cause and effect cluster (handout provided) to explore relationships on your issue. Exploring relationships attempts to discover and address your
social condition from various viewpoints.
You will also develop a skeleton (handout provided); this skeleton outlines topic sentences, key support, and commentary.
Finally, write your essay to expose this reality (the social condition) and how this reality has real circumstances and/or consequences (causes / effects) for
those who participate or come across such a reality. Your discussion includes causes contributing to the issue or effects such an issue has on others. In some cases,
your essay may address both. This is an academic, research paper over a social condition. Thus, you must integrate research to support your discussion and/or
positions.
Guidelines
Essay must be written and documented in MLA format. You will investigate until you can successfully fulfill the assignment. This paper must cite 5 creditable
sources; no generic websites. Be careful with sources without authors. Your research should come from legitamate resources. (Googlers, please proceed with caution.)
This essay must be at least 3 full pages in length, but can exceed this limit too.
