Residency

For Residency, please complete the following pre-assignment to be used throughout the week. You will be using the 10 scholarly resources (empirical articles or dissertations) and a draft of your 10 Strategic Points starting Tuesday to work on developing or revising your 10 Strategic Points and applying them to your Prospectus or Proposal, if you have developed one.

Please post this pre-assignment on Monday, the first day of Residency, by 9 pm.

CAUTION: You will not be able to download your completed pre-course assignment to the Residency assignment folder until Monday. The Loud Cloud assignment folder will not work until Monday. Folders in Loud Cloud do not work until the first day of the class which is Monday. If the folder is not available Monday evening, which can happen in Loud Cloud, then plan to post it Tuesday morning before you go to class.

Pre-Assignment Work
Please complete the following Pre-Assignment work prior to Monday, the first day of Residency. We suggest you start to work on it at least one week before coming to Residency. Many of your peers have said they wished they had put more time and effort into reading empirical articles and dissertations, as well as, completing the Annotated Bibliographies and the 10 Points before coming to Residency.
(1)    Ten (10) Scholarly References on Your Topic: The first thing you will need to find to complete your 10 Strategic Points is five empirical articles and/or dissertations from research on your topic. Please use those articles to develop an Annotated Bibliography on each article and a current version of your 10 Strategic Points.
a.    Each annotated bibliography should be 200-250 words long and should include the following for each article:
i.    The article citation and its permalink (these are not included in the word count).
ii.    A written summary of the key concept(s) of the article. Why was the study done? What was the population studied? What did the researcher(s) conclude? What other information about this study do you believe is unique or important to recall? Are there specific statements made by the author that you wish to retain?
b.    Then post these 5 Annotated Bibliographies along with your 10 Strategic Points document in the first assignment drop box in LoudCloud. You will be using them at Residency beginning Tuesday morning. They can be on your laptop or a hard copy, based on how you prefer to use them. (Worth 25 % of the assignment)
(2)    Ten Strategic Points: The second thing to complete, which you will be using throughout Residency, is a summary of the ten strategic points for your research. The attached document (10_Strategic_Points) includes the instructions and a table in which to complete your ten strategic points. The ten strategic points are essential to ensuring your research plan is clear, aligned, and doable. Feedback will be given on your 10 Strategic Points in the class throughout the week. (Worth 75% of the assignment)
NOTE: For DBA and Ed. D Learners: Please load (1) and (2) above to the Residency Loud Cloud Classroom FIRST Assignment Drop Box by 9 pm Monday of Residency.
For PhD Psychology Learners ONLY:  Please email according to instructions you received on your enrollment emails.)
(3)    Download the following materials to your laptop to use in class each day: First, download your Pre-Assignment including the 10 Strategic Points document and the 5 empirical articles or dissertations. Second, download Required Residency Course Materials to use in class each day. The course materials for this class ARE NOT in Loud Cloud. They are here in the DC Network so you can continue to access them after class. Please download (1) Learner Schedule, (2) Program Objectives, Topics, and Assignments, and (3)  All of the materials in Folder 2 (Required: Residency Course Materials)  from either RSD851 or RSD881 (depending on the class you are taking) to your laptop by Monday evening. Please do not assume you can access DC Network daily since there can be computer network issues at the hotel just as you can experience at home or work.

(4)    If you have a working copy of your Prospectus or your Proposal, please bring the most current one to Residency. You will have an opportunity to continue to do work on these during the week. This is not a requirement.

Submit items (1) and (2) above to the first assignment drop box in your Loud Cloud classroom by 9 pm local time on Monday. Use the following format to name the 10 Strategic Points you submit for your assignment:

Please Read Announcements on Saturday before Residency to Meet Your Faculty.

The faculty will provide their emails and telephone number in case you need to reach them over the weekend. These announcements will also provide any updated information. Also, please note that the course materials are not in Loud Cloud. They are only available here on the DC Network.  By providing them on the DC Network you can access them after Residency and throughout your dissertation journey.
