Learning objectives:
The following assignment is intended to help you to achieve the following:
• Evaluate contrasting perspectives on organizations. Specifically, some of the videos below challenge our conventional ways of managing organizations.
• Apply contemporary organizational behavior theories. In the present assignment, you are expected to discuss how organizational behavior theories support or contradict the practices presented in these videos.
• Collect and analyze data. Among other things, you will collect more date on each of these organizations, analyze it and synthesize it in the form of a research report.
• Articulate and apply the key organizational behaviors and events that transpire in the modern organizations.

Ricardo Semler: How to run a company with (almost) no rules
Watch the following videos. They are somehow related to unconventional organizations and management practices. Yet, they seem to be working, arguably.
First part: 30% conduct further research on each of the companies to address the following questions:
• Present the synopsis of each company
• Why are they operating the way they do?
• What are the strengths and weaknesses of their practices?
• How much impact did the leader in each of these organizations have on the way they operate?
• Are these practices simple fads, or are they likely to revolutionize how other organizations are run?
• What is your opinions on these practices? Justify. How likely are you to adopt these practices? Would they work in Canada? Why? What adaptations, if any, are needed for them to work in Canada?
Note that you need to demonstrate further research to get a thorough knowledge of these organizations. Cite your sources as appropriate. You should not limit yourself to watching the videos.
Second part: 30%: Conduct more research to find new trends in organizational behaviour, management or leadership practices in five other organizations. Thoroughly describe these practices, then discuss their strengths and weaknesses. Finally, discuss what impact these new practices may have on organizations in general? Are they simple fads or do they have the potential to revolutionize the way we run organizations?
Third part: 30%: Refer to your textbook and other academic articles and books to find support or contradiction with the practices in part one and part two. You need to confront the academic theory to these real world organizational practices. Do the academic research findings support or recommend some of these practices, or do they contradict and warn against some of these practices? Describe these research findings and explain how they are in alignment or in contradiction with these organizational practices.
Fourth part: 10%: Assume your team has been given full latitude to create an awesome organization, say your dream organization. Describe such an organization and discuss how you will make it work.
