Project Overview: To write a paper of 1250-1750 words which presents the body of theory relevant to a chosen area of Operations Management/Research (weeks 14-17), analyses it’s application to a chosen area of tourism or leisure/events, and concludes by evaluating the contribution of operations management to organizational decision making.
Overall Aim: To discuss the practical application of operations management approaches, methods or techniques to a particular sector, and demonstrate how operations management perspectives support the management of service operations.
Learning Outcomes(from the CRS):
5 Demonstrate an appreciation of operations management and research as a framework for understanding service operations
Organisation& Methodology:
Choosing an operations management/research topic area from the final four weeks of the course (SOW) students will write a paper which presents an overview of the peer reviewed literature and analyzes the application of the concepts presented to tourism or leisure/events operations problems. The concluding section of the paper will be evaluative, and focus on how organizational decision making is supported by operations management and operations research perspectives.

This is a final concluding assessment and paper which is supported by the investigation of individual sectors in project one. Students are free to stay with their original sector, or change, by agreement of the tutor. Students will be encouraged to develop and share relevant industry and academic resources over the duration of the course. Tutorial support will be available in the final weeks of the course.
Resources Available:
Student developed research/ case studies: journal articles, industry and consumer report links.Moodle.
Tasks & Weighting:
Areferenced paper of 1,250–1,750 words.Section content, length & grade are indicated below and will be assessed according to the Glion grading criteria.

i. Introduction, including identification of the organizational decision making area to be
presented and identification of the sector (approx. 200 words) 20%
ii. Overview of the peer reviewed literature (approx. 800 words) 30%
iii. Analysis of the application of the concepts presented to the selected operational
area (approx. 400 words) 20%
iv. Evaluation of how OM/OR perspectives support organizational decision making
(approx. 250 words) 15%
v. In text referencing and end references (that cited or quoted) APA format 15%

• No wallets or bindings are permitted (in paper or plastic). Your paper should be stapled only

• The paper will be uploaded to Turnitin via Moodle and hard copy submitted to reception
• There will be a grade deduction of 3% for each special instruction which is not followed
